On Friday January 22, 2010 The Spotsylvania Vol. Fire Department watched the biggest part of its history go away to progress. Company One that stood on American Legion Drive and served as the central location and mother station to the department was demolished to make way for a new county courthouse complex. The station housed apparatus for Company 1 since 1955 has seen three additions. Two engine bays were added, a back storage room and finally a tower bay in the early 90's to house the county's first aerial. These additions gave the stations its nickname "The Big House", housing more trucks than any other station in the County. The Station was relocated Aug. 2008 with the opening of the New Company One just a short mile from the origanal site on Courthouse Commons Blvd. This station holds a lot of memories fo this department and will be greatly missed. A big piece of our history is now gone.
