Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department recognizes Firefighter Abbey Coutscoudis for the month of June. Abbey is the third generation of her family who has served as a volunteer to the fire service, with her father and grandmother still currently involved with SVFD. Abbey became a member in April 2018 but has grown up around fire service her entire life as her family members provide endless hours of service dedication to Spotsylvania County. Abbey’s training as a volunteer firefighter has helped build a career, while she is currently a government contractor applying what she has learned as a firefighter and gaining new experiences to bring back to the fire service. Abbey’s dedication to her community and Spotsylvania Vol. Fire Dept is reflected in her passion for her career and the volunteer service. Abbey's greatest memory of her time as firefighter is responding to her first structure fire as a released firefighter and being with a great crew of volunteer and career firefighters.

Abbey’s advice to anyone that is interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter is to reach out to us for sure! There are plenty of positions available in SVFD. It’s a ton of fun, and a lot of hard work, but so rewarding. Abbey is one of many volunteer firefighters that maintained staffing during the month of May, but without volunteer firefighters like Abbey Coutscoudis’s dedication to community service, the community could not receive the assistance that is expected when calling 911.
