Car Fire Stops Rt 1 Traffic

On Tuesday evening crews were dispatched to a MVA with a possible vehicle on fire. Quickly reports were confirmed a three vehicle front to rear collision with fire in the engine compartment of the middle vehicle. Fire quickly spread to the first vehicle. 6 Dead From Plane Crash At Shannon Airport

On Friday August 12th units were dispatched to a plane crash at the end of the runway at Shannon Airport. Units arrived on the scene and reported one small plane across the railroad tracks. The plane was on fire with fire spreading in the wood line. crews extinguished the fire and noticed the victims still inside.

Welcome Home Army Sgt.Zach Herrick

On Saturday morning August 6th the Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department participated in a ceremony to honor a wounded combat veteran with a new home. Sgt. Zach Herrick was wounded when his platoon was ambushed and he was shot in the face. Sgt. Herrick was medically retired and received the purple heart for his injuries. MVA with Entrapment Harrison Rd

On Friday afternoon units were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Harrison rd near Nichols rd. Units arrived on the scene and reported one person trapped in a van. Crews worked to extricate the patient while ems crews tended to another person in the second vehicle. Two patients were transported to Mary Washington Hospital for further evaluations.... SVFD Places Rescue Engine 1 In Service

On Sunday July 17th SVFD held a housing ceremony for Rescue Engine 1 placing this unit in service.

A housing ceremony and "wet down" is a long standing fire tradition going back to the time of horse drawn fire engines. Traditionally members will wet down the new truck with a retiring truck christening the new rig. The vehicle would the be pushed into the apparatus bay.

On July 15 Spostylvania county Battalion Chiefs, Jason Carter and Steve Cooper graduated from the inaugural class of the Virginia Chief Officer Academy.
